Boston Travel Guide

๐ŸšŒGetting to Gillette Stadium

Gillette Stadium is in Foxborough, about 30 miles south of Boston. There's no regular rail service, but MBTA runs special commuter rail trains from Boston's South Station on match days. The ride takes about 45 minutes. Without the event train, you need a car โ€” 40-60 minutes from downtown depending on traffic. From Logan Airport (BOS), take the Blue Line to South Station, then the event train. Plan your return โ€” post-match trains fill up fast.

๐Ÿ Where to Stay

Back Bay is Boston's most walkable upscale neighborhood โ€” Newbury Street shopping, brownstones, close to South Station for event trains. Beacon Hill is charming with gas-lit streets. Seaport/Fort Point is the modern waterfront district with new hotels. Cambridge (across the Charles River) has Harvard, MIT, and a good food scene. Fenway is lively and sports-themed. For budget, Somerville has cheaper rooms and Red Line access.

๐ŸดFood & Drink

New England clam chowder is non-negotiable. Legal Sea Foods does it well, or hit any harborside shack. Lobster rolls โ€” get them hot with butter (Connecticut style) or cold with mayo (Maine style). The North End is Boston's Little Italy โ€” get pastries at Mike's Pastry or Modern Pastry. Faneuil Hall Marketplace has tourist food but the atmosphere is fun. In Cambridge, try the restaurants in Harvard Square or Inman Square.

โ˜€Weather

Boston in June-July is warm and pleasant. Expect 25-30ยฐC (77-86ยฐF) with moderate humidity. Occasional thunderstorms. Foxborough can feel a few degrees warmer than the coast. Gillette Stadium is open-air โ€” sunscreen for day matches, light jacket for evening games. Overall, Boston has comfortable summer weather compared to southern venues.

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tips

  • โœ“Book event train tickets early โ€” they sell out. Check MBTA's website closer to match dates
  • โœ“The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile walk through Revolutionary War history โ€” free and fascinating
  • โœ“Boston is very walkable. You don't need a car in the city itself
  • โœ“Gillette Stadium is isolated in Foxborough. Bring everything you need โ€” there's not much nearby
