๐Getting to Estadio Azteca
Estadio Azteca is in the south of Mexico City, in the Coyoacan area. Metro Line 2 (Blue) runs to Tasqueรฑa, then take the Tren Ligero (light rail) to Estadio Azteca station โ right at the gates. From Mexico City International Airport (MEX), take Metro Line 5 or Uber (40-60 minutes depending on traffic). Mexico City traffic is some of the worst in the world. Use the Metro whenever possible โ it costs 5 pesos ($0.25) per ride.

Roma and Condesa are the top picks โ tree-lined streets, incredible restaurants, boutique hotels, safe, walkable. This is where most international visitors stay. Polanco is the upscale neighborhood with designer shops and fine dining. Centro Historico has the Zocalo, murals, and colonial architecture โ cheaper and more intense. Coyoacan (near the stadium) is the bohemian district where Frida Kahlo lived. All of these are well-connected by Metro.

Mercado Roma in Roma Norte is a gourmet food hall. Try mole at a traditional restaurant in Centro Historico. Churros from El Moro (since 1935). Mezcal bars in Roma and Condesa. Eat at the taco stands โ the ones with long lines of locals are the safe bet.

Mexico City sits at 2,240m (7,350 ft) altitude, keeping it cooler than you'd expect. June-July averages 22-25ยฐC (72-77ยฐF) during the day. Afternoon rain showers are almost daily โ they hit at 3-5pm, last an hour, then clear up. Bring a rain jacket. The altitude can cause shortness of breath on the first day โ take it easy, drink water, skip the mezcal on night one.
